About The Site
"Journey of Gilgamesh", is a creative website dedicated to information about The Epic of Gilgamesh and explanation of the literary components of the reading. This website can be used in various ways including learning about the story, literature and background of the epic. Also, it is a resource for quick information on certain literary aspects of the story.
Introduction to literature:
Gods create Enkidu, a wild creature, to challenge the arrogant Gilgamesh. After their initial confrontation, Gilgamesh and Enkidu become friends and during an expedition west, they confront an evil monster named Humbaba. Enkidu kills Humbaba resulting in Enkidu's death by the gods. Distraught over Enkidu's death, Gilgamesh seeks immortality. Going on many journeys, the most well known being the encounter with the immortal Utnapishtam. Utnapishtam advises Gilgamesh to find a plant capable of immortality. One night sleeping after he finds the plant, it is stolen by a serpant, leaving Gilgamesh a mortal. Gilgamesh returns to the kingdom and faces his mortality as a king for a long period of time and is loved by his kingdom.
